So today was my first day in the project! And I would want to share that experience with whoever is reading this… Hm where should I start? Telling about the schools we have visited today? About how the students reacted? How did I feel about this experience?
I guess what I feel the most right now is the feeling of being different. I mean, what is this Lebanese girl doing in the heart of Belgium (Western Europe) talking about her experience, her country and what she faces in terms of homophobia and discrimination? I was listening to Bogdan explaining about what he faces and what he dreams to have in Romania, and about what the LGBT movement has already achieved in both Romania and Belgium and I feel a bit saddened. You see, in my country I don’t even dream of what Belgium has, or what Bogdan hopes to have in the near future in Romania: gay marriage, social respect, social recognition of gay relationships. For me, I dream of the day when I will be able to be to exist, legally, in my country, when I am neither illegal, sick nor possessed by devils.
When I think of it, my experience is very different from others’… But then again, this is what the project is all about, it’s about being different, different in a different world J, no?
